House of Bonsai is a plant nursery in Lakewood, California. It is listed at 5214 Palo Verde Ave, Lakewood, CA 90713, which places it among the local businesses of Lakewood that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Besides its main category, the business also describes itself as bonsai plant supplier, so it may cover more than the name suggests.

In Lakewood, garden centers are busiest on spring weekends, when new stock arrives and popular plants sell out; weekday mornings are calmer and staff have more time to answer questions. Ask which plants are hardy for your USDA zone in California, whether trees and shrubs carry a replacement guarantee (one year is common), and whether the nursery delivers and plants large items. Fall is the best planting season for many trees and perennials, and end-of-season sales are common. Many nurseries close or shorten hours in winter, so check the listing for current hours and Google rating before you go.

Hours are published for 6 days a week. On most of those days it is open 8 am–5 pm. Note that it does not open on Sunday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (562) 804-6888. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is houseofbonsai.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

Its Google rating is 4.0 out of 5 from 122 reviews, a solid but mixed picture; reading the most recent reviews will tell you what to expect.

Lakewood is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around Lakewood is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Great place with incredible materials for bonsai, for from enthusiasts to professionals and everyone in-between. The best bonsai specialty store I've been to. Pricing can *appear* steep to people who don't know how much work and how many years have gone into such small trees, but I find prices fair. Know that bonsai is a life-long hobby / artform requiring constant seasonal care and research over many years of enjoyment. If you want a cute hands-off plant to put on a shelf, like many of these reviewers sound like, consider the indoors plant section at regular nurseries instead. I didn't find the lady here rude, and even if I did, this is not a hospitality business - who cares, as long as I get good bonsai trees and supplies which are pretty hard to come by at most nurseries. I will be coming back.

Every piece there is so well cared for, extremely intricate and healthy. Tweety from Akita Bonsai in FV (another fantastic bonsai nursery) recommended that we check out House of Bonsai.. so glad we did! Highly recommend, beautiful LARGE nursery!

I received a bonsai plant for Valentine's Day. There was detailed paperwork that accompanied the plant. I wanted to get clarification on a couple of items to make sure I was properly taking care of it. The person at the Nursery was kind, patient and very helpful with all of my questions. I plan to get more Bonsai and feel confident House of Bonsai will help me with all of my needs.

The proprietor is so mean and harsh. It's almost not worth the $165 I paid today for a little tree. She is very knowledgeable but stingy with that knowledge. It's a gorgeous place there's no doubt about that. It's probably the only place of its kind in the whole South Bay region of California. It's a bonsai heaven. Prices are very steep.

House of Bonsai is amazing! Incredible selection of plants and supplies. You can really tell there's a lot of passion behind the work being done here to curate all these plants. This is a nice place to visit even just to browse, it is truly a gem of a place. Will definitely be returning here in the future. Also service is excellent, got help when needed, and the lady up front was very specific with pricing.
